Promoting "understanding"
- Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim--Christian Understanding at Georgetown University. Prince Alwaleed gave Georgetown $20 million for that naming right (a similar purchase was made at Harvard.) That's the same prince whose $10 million to rebuild the Twin Towers in New York after 9-11 was turned down by then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani. As Eliana Johnson noted at Yale last year, Saudi purchases in academic departments have been going on for quite some time, so we hope that those listening to the professor from Georgetown will know who butters his bread.
- Muslim Public Affairs Committee. This is the group formed by Salam al-Maryati. Part of their public affairs advising is to tell their friends not to cooperate with the FBI. Robert Spencer has more.
Note that, unlike the decision to not invite Desmond Tutu to St. Thomas, I have no problem inviting these speakers to Century. My question is whether these speakers will have to face questions from the audience, and whether or not they can do a better job of answering these questions than was done at Columbia.
